Visiting Taschen’s website just broke the news that Dennis Hopper died yesterday at the age of 74 following a battle with prostate cancer. As a fan of Blue Velvet and Apocalypse Now I was sad to hear of his death but glad looking  at his obituary to see what a rich and varied  life he had as an artist.

Brilliantly eerie oil paintings by Austrailian artist Jeremy Geddes. The Cosmonaut series features suspended and drifting cosmonauts in urban and abstract environments. His style of oil painting on linen and board is very realistic and often slightly disturbing. A weird mix between reality and sci-fi.

We’ve recently been working with Locutio Voice Technologies and TomTom to release the first in a series of licensed Star Wars voices for the TomTom GPS. The first product release is the  Darth Vader VoiceSkin which launched on May the 4th (Star Wars day) and has been received really well. The voices are all authentic and produced by Locutio in partnership with Lucas Film. The Voices also include real sound effects from the original Star Wars films. A great project to be involved with.

There are two viral videos below the fold so click ‘continue reading’ to watch them, Darth Vader in the Recording Studio is very funny! Here’s a quick sample of the on device audio:

Nike have definitely ramped things up in a big way for the 2010 World Cup. This 3 minute advert has just rolled out online to great acclaim. Directed by Hollywood director and producer Alejandro G. Iñarritu (21 Grams, Babel), the film shows split second moments and how timelines in a match can go in two directions for both football players and fans.

The Dark Lens project by Cedric Delsaux has been a work in progress since 2005 and linked many times online. A new set of images has been released which made me revisit the project. An amazing combination of photography shot in Paris, Lille and Dubai combined with elements of the Star Wars universe.

A follow up to the sci-fi film Tron seems like a very good idea. Almost 30 years have past but hopefully this classic film will be done justice. Both in terms of narrative and recreating the aesthetic of the original film that was streets ahead of it’s time in terms of special effects. It’s definetely a film I’m looking forward to this Christmas.

I’m loving these retro artworks by Spanish illustrator Gianmarco Magnani. Really beautiful combinations of technical manual style and evocative water painted scenes. Some of it’s very ‘Akiraesque’. You can also buy the prints in his online shop, very tempting!
“At first the series was just called ‘Riders’. But I decided to give it a focus of rivalry between good and bad, with another side: ‘Villains’.”
