5M80 by Nicolas Deveaux

April 9, 2013#

This really made me smile. A beautifully executed 3D short film directed by Nicolas Deveaux featuring high board diving Giraffe’s. Paris based Cube Creative marks a decade in business with this magical and architecturally stunning film named for the average height of its stars. This film follows on from Nicolas’s previous film 7 Tonnes 3 which features a trampolining elephant.

The Shard: A Timelapse Study

June 25, 2012#

Our local expert in architectural photography Paul Raftery has collaborated with director Dan Lowe to create a timelapse film showing the final weeks of construction of The Shard tower in London. It was shot over many long days during the early months of 2012, from locations spanning from Greenwich Park to Hampstead Heath.

The way the building sits in the London landscape and responses to the ever-changing London weather became a central theme, to the extent that we decided that we would frame The Shard centrally in every shot so as to emphasise its form and shape.

My work shooting architecture meant I had a pretty good idea of the best viewpoints and in some cases access to high points in London already arranged. That was a great help – but still the process was painstaking! Slowly through many hours of shooting and waiting for the right weather we started to get some workable footage.

Live the Language

February 16, 2011#

I really like this sequence of language videos from EF Language Schools. A collaboration between Gustav Johansson, Niklas Johansson, Albin Holmqvist and Camp David the videos combine evocative film with beautiful typography. Nice soundtracks too. I’m not sure which my favorite is.

Mutiny Bikes

January 17, 2011#

The videos shot for Mutiny bikes by Joe Simon are great. A combination of stunningly shot video (including super8 and 5DmkII) and crazy riding skills in breathtaking locations. They’ve just got a really nice feel to them that make you want to get on your bike. It’s funny when you look at Joe Simon’s main work shooting weddings, a real contrast in content but the same beautiful aesthetic.

adidas Star Wars Originals

June 5, 2010#

adidas has teamed up with  Lucas Film  to push their Star Wars Originals collection. They’ve just released this two minute advert which features Snoop Dogg, Daft Punk, David Beckham, Jay Baruchel, Ciara, and Noel Gallagher in the Mos Eisley Cantina Scene from Star Wars. Snoop Dogg reaching for his Light Sabre is definitely one thing I thought I’d never see!  The advert doesn’t feature any trainers, just a few instances of the Adidas logo on T-shirts. See the video over the fold.
