Nourishing Habits for Nourishing Design
A great talk by Craig Mod at the 2011 Build Conference on how great design is born from nourishing habits.
Adobe CS6: Non-Format Video
Non-Format is one of our favorite design studios. Comprising Kjell Ekhorn (Norwegian) and Jon Forss (British), Non-Format has a very innovative approach to typography and illustrative deconstructed graphic design. Clients includeas Nike, Coca Cola and The New York Times who have all had great success using the studio’s award winning and highly acclaimed design talent. Non-Format is based in Oslo, Norway and Minneapolis, USA. This video filmed for Adobe gives a brief view of their working life.
Closer to the Edge
We just got the chance to watch Closer to the Edge. The cinematography is breathtaking, with the sheer speed portrayed around the course. The documentary itself does hold your attention for the length of the film. The slow motion and panning shots must look amazing in 3D (we still need to buy a 3D projector). It makes you want to go and see the TT for real. But definitely not ride in it, Guy Martin’s fiery crash at 170mph underlines how dangerous it is. Not to mention the fatalities.
TED 2023 Viral Video: I will change the world
The viral advertising campaign for Promethius has started to bring out some really interesting material. The 2023 TED Talk (backed by TED itself) by Peter Weyland is really quite impressive in the way it plays on the TED setup for Talks. It’s quite amazing TED would allow it’s brand to be used in this type of advertising. This also links up with the viral corporate site for Weyland Industries.
INK – Digital Workshop
We’ve recently been working with INK to develop their online identity and launch a CMS website to feature their latest work. INK are a London based studio that use digital illustration and animation to tell stories and bring ideas to life. Posted above is their recent CG film for Silverstone Race Circuit to promote the new pit, paddock and race facilities.
Live the Language
I really like this sequence of language videos from EF Language Schools. A collaboration between Gustav Johansson, Niklas Johansson, Albin Holmqvist and Camp David the videos combine evocative film with beautiful typography. Nice soundtracks too. I’m not sure which my favorite is.
Mutiny Bikes
The videos shot for Mutiny bikes by Joe Simon are great. A combination of stunningly shot video (including super8 and 5DmkII) and crazy riding skills in breathtaking locations. They’ve just got a really nice feel to them that make you want to get on your bike. It’s funny when you look at Joe Simon’s main work shooting weddings, a real contrast in content but the same beautiful aesthetic.
Flynn Lives
Anticipation of the new Tron film is growing. The viral marketing for Legacy has been building over the past few months in a big way: http://www.flynnlives.com/ is one of the main viral sites. You can signup to help ‘track down all leads related to the mysterious disappearance of Kevin Flynn, digital pioneer and former CEO of ENCOM’. There’s some really retro files to discover including lots of ASCII art animations and other weird crypitc messages.
Launched it has, Yoda VoiceSkin
We’ve been working on the Star Wars branding with Locutio Voice Technologies and Lucas Film for the Yoda voice product launch. To coincide with the product launch TomTom have created a new viral video deployed on YouTube. The video features Yoda in the recording studio delivering his lines for the GPS, quite funny. Dagobah!
